How to blog with Tumblr
In our previous article we described about what is Tumblr and why yahoo is planning to buy it? in this section we will describe how you can work with Tumblr? There are just few simple steps to start working with this amazing website.
Step 1: Create your free Tumblr account on the website:https://www.Tumblr.com/. All you need to do is enter your email address, choose a password and select a unique user name which becomes your Tumblr web address too. The website will send a verification email to to to your email address to verify details.
Step 2: You will be directed to customization page to choose or design a suitable Tumblr name for your Tumblr page that others will see as page title on the site as:
http://username/Tumblr.com
Thus you must think twice before opting for an appropriate name for your profile which will be displayed publicly in address URL. You can then change the background design color or template color or commonly named as “theme” scheme.
In future if you wish to make changes in your Tumblr blog name or themes then you can click on “preferences” available on tool and under that choose “customize”, now your Tumblr page will appear in “edit” mode with tabs in the upper left named as “info, appearance, pages, and theme”.
If you are a technical designer and have a good knowledge of CSS and HTML codes then you can create your own Tumblr design by going to “advanced” option. Although Tumblr also offers pre-designed templates for free for all kind of users. In addition to this if you want a special and unique design for your blog use can use some premium designs by paying minimal cost for it. Further you can also upload background images to almost all the themes to give a stunning looks to your page or you can write a tagline aiming at your content or mission using Tumblr. Also, you can add static pages that will automatically appear in your Tumblr site menu.
Step 3: Each Tumblr account has individual dashboard that’s operated by user only. At this place you can post your blog, view others blogs, monitor a public Tumblr page, a place where everyone can view your published Tumblr blog or content. This post can is even visible to those who don’t have a Tumblr account. On dashboard page you can learn about various posts you can develop with the website. Hence you can get familiar with the Tumblr Dashboard.
Step 4: As you get familiar with the dashboard once, then you can very well begin to design your content. You can post an image or audio file or video file or text or web links or quotes. Before you start to post your content you need to select the type of media category so that the content is formatted accordingly.
After the post is designed then you may click on “preview” button to take a stance of your work and its appearance on the site. After checking all these you have to click on “post” button. Once you press post button the contents of your post will become visible to everyone with your Tumblr blog.
Step 5: Tumblr also uses “follow” to get connected with other users and their account updates. Similarly others can follow your account too.
Step 6: You can repost others posts or blogs present on Tumblr this is called reblogging in Tumblr. This feature of Tumblr is much similar to twitter’s retweet.
Step 7: Lingo is also offered by Tumblr which makes you familiar with the efficient and effective utilization of Tumblr distinct tools and techniques for blogging. Step 9: with Tumblr you can stay in touch with social services easily by just clicking on “services” and select the network from twitter, youtube, facebook, wordpress, blogger or livejournal which you want to link with Tumblr. after making suitable selection click on “SAVE + CLOSE” option.
